We would like to alert you to a new app called Say At Me (sayat.me) which young people are currently downloading to gain anonymous feedback on themselves.
It is similar to Ask FM which surfaced a few years ago and it is available as web and Android apps. Both apps present the possibility of our students receiving negative comments and the obvious damage to their self esteem. We would be grateful if you could encourage your child not to download or to contribute to such sites. There is very useful advice on talking to your children about effective use of social media at www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents Thank you to colleagues from Aylesbury High School for sharing this information. Please be aware of the ‘Blue Whale Challenge Game’ on social media. Whilst the game has been described as hoax by the Internet Matters website (https://www.internetmatters.org/hub/expert-opinion/latest-fake-news-phenomenon-blue-whale-suicide-game/), caution is still advised.
There is also an app called 'Yellow' that you should be aware of. This allows the user to make contact with young people around them by asking them to like or dislike some photos. We have also recently written to you regarding 'Roblox' which again gives other users access to young people who might not otherwise be on social media. Thank you to colleagues from Tring School for sharing the above information with us. |
